This man’s tweet about Greta Thunberg being involved in a “freak yachting accident” is no “joke”

But, for some, this is something to poke fun at. In fact, two people have actually publicly made disgusting jokes about Thunberg on social media — with both deservedly receiving a fierce backlash from her supporters. Brexiter Arron Banks and radio presenter Julia Hartley-Brewer seem to have a problem with the young female activist - who lives with a learning disability - for making it her life’s mission to address the climate crisis we’re in.

Most worryingly, Banks actually commented about a “freak yachting accident” happening while Thumberg is out at sea this month.As you can imagine, people are appalled at the supposed “joke” and have gathered together in support of Thunberg. Although Hartley-Brewer’s tweet didn’t have a violent tone, the way she patronsies Thunberg and shows her disinterest in the climate crisis is infuriatingly frustrating.Greta Thunberg and 9 other female climate change activists to follow on InstagramSpeaking before she set off for America on Wednesday , Thunberg made one thing very clear: meeting the President of the United States of America would be a complete waste of her time.

“Lives with a learning disability”? Does she? I’d be interested to know what definition of learning disability you’re using here...

Greta doesn’t “live with [some unspecified] learning disability”, she’s autistic. She talks about it openly as a strength. Good you support her, but to avoid the ‘a-word’ is to ignore a key part of her activism and identity, and the bigger picture behind the bullying.
