It may sound mad but a financial thank-you would repay our debt to a vigilant generation who have lost their best years, says aliceTTimes

It may sound mad but a financial thank-you would repay our debt to a vigilant generation who have lost their best yearsillennial: “OK, I’ve done the ten-day isolation, PCR was negative two days ago, so were both of today’s lateral flows. I’ll walk 14 miles back now for Boxing Day so I don’t have to be exposed to anyone.”Sponsored

aliceTTimes I'm 74 and I've lost 2 years of my life. The young folk have the rest of their lives ahead of them, my time is limited so please can I have some compo ?!!

aliceTTimes My parents lost their childhoods to the war. It just had to be done. No one complained, and no one felt they needed financial recompense. We need to get our priorities straight. The people who need financial help are the poor; made poorer by this vile government

aliceTTimes What a monumentally ridiculous proposition. Everyone has made sacrifices, particularly the elderly. As others have pointed out, they weren’t paid anything for the six years that we were at war. Slap yourself across the face and stop encouraging entitlement.

aliceTTimes Not a chance. Should bring back workhouses instead

aliceTTimes I don't think so.

aliceTTimes The state didn’t compensate my grandparents’ generation for giving up six years of their lives between 1939 and 1945 to defend the country against fascism. I see no reason why we should compensate me or anyone else from the Millennial or Gen Z groups.

aliceTTimes Like the financial thank you we gave to those who laid down their lives for us in World War I and World War II? What a transactional and vulgar interpretation of humanity.

Cabinet ministers sceptical of stricter Covid curbs in EnglandBoris Johnson likely to face pushback if he decides latest hospital data shows need to tighten restrictions Wouldn't trust the Cabinet with tying my shoelaces never mind my wellbeing and health. The more the economy is protected by not imposing restrictions, the more cases will rise. The more cases rise, the more people will self-impose those restrictions, thus damaging the economy. A short firebreak shutdown v. a prolonged slump in demand. Govt. choice. Glad I live in Scotland, away from these numpty's Covid shambles. What an absolutely shambolic UK government.
