. In less than an hour, the programme succeeded in bringing together sensitive reporting of the massacre and the context in which it took place; angrily examining our “wilful amnesia” about the brutality of the British empire and our idea of British exceptionalism; and offering many insights into the second-generation experience.
Soni_Razdan Good moring
Soni_Razdan You too are british , namak haram
Sathnam Why not 5 stars? Hugely impressive and moving documentary perfectly presented. Should be used as an educational tool. Congratulations to Sathnam and all involved.
This event was the beginning of the end of British Raj. Whatever respect for British rule was left evaporated after this. Now a century later the boot is on the other foot
DavidOlusoga Keep stirring up that hatred. Plenty of cash in it for you bstards.
It was superb and so moving. Thank you Sathnam. I wanted to high-five Kohli for what he said to Dyer at the end. This rewriting of Britain's colonial past needs to be called out. We've had this dishonest narrative for too long. Oh and Sathnam's Punjabi was not 'bad' at all.

Sathnam Interesting article. Googled Amritsar killings and got back a Wikipedia article on 20,000 Sikhs being murdered by pogrom in 1984. This can’t be correct I would’ve heard a lot about it Is this true & is this being commemorated this year too? Shocking.
Sathnam The British looted India and many Indians were complicit. Interesting that Sikhs still remained loyal after this atrocity and were a key contributor to the World War effort.
Sathnam Thank God for the internet so many of us and hopefully the younger generation is learning about equality and justice.
Ok. Sorry. We promise to not have a world spanning empire again. We cool?
And Amritsar is just the proverbial tip of the iceberg. There needs to be greater acknowledgement of the horrors visited on all people the British Empire touched. Especially Australian and Canadian indigenous peoples, and the legacies that still constrict them
But if the British were never in India.....
Watched this tonight, made my stomach turn, Britain’s attitude there was similar to the attitude in Ireland, Bloody Sunday, Ballymurphy. The Irish famine was caused by same looking down their noises at people they ruled over. Just watch Black 47, Netflix.
The problem is Britain has failed to come to terms with its empire and because of this it missreads the 'Third World'. It also leads to its failure to adjust to it current place in Europe and the world.
Raj Kohli's observation is key to dealing with the much-vaunted British (or English?) exceptionalism.
Thank you !! Erin go Bragh.

UK envoy to India says Britain regrets Amritsar massacre, but does not apologiseThe High Commissioner visits the site where at least 379 Sikhs were shot dead to pay tribute after calls for the UK to say sorry. This Country apologises enough as it is, when other countries apologise for all they did then we should do the same but not until. The past is another country. I still feel sore about the Romans at the indians will get revenge some day!
