Incumbent prime minister and BJP leader Narendra Modi and his challenger, Indian National Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi, were among those who attended the memorial event on Saturday.
The massacre occurred amid a period when Indians were becoming increasingly restive in the face of colonial government measures they found repressive. Dyer said later that the firing was"not to disperse the meeting but to punish the Indians for disobedience".
Amritsar massacre no doubt is a tragedy..but why don't India apologise for many other massacres taken place in Kashmir and in minority Indian states ..This is very hypocrisy on their part..India should not be seen as champions of humanity..Charity beings at home..!!!
The Black Hole of Calcutta is another example of the inhumanity that the human race is capable of.
How come it’s only the British history that makes the headlines? EVERY country has a past
Why should they? No one alive today was responsible. Important thing is WE remember.
This was an horrendous & cowardly act of murder of innocent families, by our British Army. The government should formally apologise to India for this massacre & for ignoring the wounded left to die throughout that night.
You can’t really apologise for something I’ll great great grandparents did years before we were born that’s just ridiculous.
So should UK, France etc.. be still mad at Germany and its people?.
Why can we not apologise the Indian Nation have always been good to the UK they supported us throughout 2 World Wars , they always looked up to Britain 🇬🇧 the least we could is apologise .
Apologise you cowards!!! This was murder and the British government don’t apologise!!! Disgraceful
I'd wished they'd apologize for the endless scam calls i get from India claiming to be from Microsoft telling me my computer got a virus. UK deserves reparations for that.

How are you posting the Jussie Smolet hoax story just now, from April 5th, on your site? With all the information of this case now available you continue this narrative?
The Indian government couldn’t care less. They have orchestrated many attacks on the Sikhs since, some with British collusion.
Next we will be asking the Romans for an apology for invading Britain............
The shooting was not ordered by the British Indian authorities but by the local military commander. So tho no official apology may be required, it would in my view have been instinctively appropriate to have given one in view of the enduring friendship between India & Britain
They just sneaked up on us and extracted an apology by means of out performing many of our service industries and taking millions of jobs. Seriously though some of the atrocities committed in the name of the Empire are truly shameful the English behaved like brutish animals.
So sad. Greed & wealth, all stolen from Asia & Africa & Australia
drmahendrapatel Terrible state of affairs really. An apology is long overdue UKinIndia
Why is it only whitey who have to apologise for the past? Britain didn't do it, Britain is an island, people who died long ago did it.
This Country apologises enough as it is, when other countries apologise for all they did then we should do the same but not until.
The past is another country. I still feel sore about the Romans at
