Peers opposing the Rwanda migrant removal scheme must let it pass today to 'save lives', James Cleverly urged last night.
Government sources said last night they were keen to get the Bill in place before Easter, when there is often an increase in the number of small boats making the perilous crossing, but admitted 'we are in the hands of the Lords'. Mr Cleverly said: 'The more this Bill progresses the more worried Labour get that it will work, and the more we've anticipated deliberate efforts from Labour to delay, disrupt or sabotage the scheme.
Rishi Sunak's spokesman said: 'The Lords have an opportunity to work with the Government to act and to pass a Bill which will stop people from taking the perilous journeys across the Channel.
