But when you say “the government” what you actually mean is “us” ... and actually if there is money to be spent, it shouldn’t be spent on smoothing over a government-created catastrophe - it should be spent on schools and hospitals.

Where's my fucking compo for voting Remain & being stuck on the failed state of moron island

Dumb Brexshit

After all this time, Brexiter Simon Jenkins still doesn’t know what the difference is between the EU Customs Union and the Single Market. 🤦‍♀️

No, it should not.

Just the farmers and fishers? What about the cheesemakers, musicians and now fashion people, and of course pretty much anyone else? Should we all get compensation?

🤣🤣🤣🤣 they did it to avoid financial transparency. Many Tory farmers use farming to shield wealth from IHT. They don’t give a monkeys about a few fishermen. Expendable dross in their eyes.

Due to removal of my FOM in “bad Brexit deal” (as you put it), I moved to France last year as I didn’t want to be stuck in UK for rest of my life. Moving was very expensive and I had to leave a flat I had renovated and loved. WHERE’S MY COMPENSATION?

Sorry did you say the tax payer or the Government. by increased borrowing ?

If the issues for the fishermen/ farmers are temporary (teething problems)then short term help would be justified but most trade experts suggest they are direct consequences of leaving the CU/SM so what is the point in subsidies unless govt plans to change tack (which they won't)

They should charge leavers an extra 20% tax to pay for their brexit stupidity and a 10% reduction for remain voters.

Not if they voted for it. If you're doling out compensation from the public purse, start with those of us who voted against it in 2016, 2017 and 2019.

I guess let’s spend £350 million a week on farmers and fishers wouldn’t fit on the side of the bus

Simon Jenkins and the rest of the pundits who said Brexit would be great should be coughing up, not the taxes of 'remoaning project fear EU fanatics'.

Someone still doesn't understand the basics of the EU, trade and Brexit, but I bet they still got paid for this nonsense.

125th time this year 😀

Correct this article please, its fundamentally incorrect regarding Norway & it's access

I wonder how many of these fishers voted for Brexit without understanding the implications to their own businesses and jobs. Now they want a bail out? This is what blind nationalism does to a country.

Simon, When you were writing in support of Brexit in 2016: 👇 I was writing this: Talking about how Brexit will result in mass & unsustainable subsidisation of the economy. Proof we don't live in a meritocracy? opinion

stupid idea, it is our money, we all need compensating for a bad brexit deal 🥺

Perhaps. But not the ones that voted for Brexit, surely?

Remembering that it's not their money but ours..... They should pay it our of their own pockets.

Errr, no. Not unless they're going to compensate citizens for loss of FOM too.

Wait, didn't Simon Jenkins vote for Brexit?

Brexit is a bad deal for all. Except for the ones who want to divide a strong Europe
