One of the longstanding hallmarks of a John Landis production are cameos from other film directors, which explains the fun incongruity of Jonathan Demme and David Cronenberg passing through Into the Night or the highbrow/lowbrow cognitive dissonance of Atom Egoyan, Gillo Pontecorvo, and Costa-Gavras appearing in The Stupids. But when Steven Spielberg turns up as the Cook county tax accessor near the end of Landis’ blowout comedy The Blues Brothers, it feels less like a hat-tip than a statement.
Still one of the best ever rollercoaster films ever. Riotous fun
The king and mayhem of all car chases 🚔
'As a band, The Blues Brothers were a mediocre act of cultural appropriation...' Seriously? Just...no. The musicians were pulled from truly great soul and blues bands of the time; Aykroyd and Belushi were both big fans of the blues, and Aykroyd had actively played for years.
Am I the only person in the world that thinks this movie is shite?
Remains one of my favourite films.
The piece doesn’t do justice to the film’s music. It’s Ackroyd’s love letter to R&B, set amid the griminess late 70’s Chicago. Big budget but far from polished. The BBs band were the backing musicians from Stax- whilst Aretha, JB and Ray are ace! Cultural appropriation- really?
There's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hey MadocRoberts didn’t we go and see this in Reading forty (40!) years ago?
Illinois nazis
Quite simply one of the best films ever made
Elwood... 'There's 106 miles to Chicago, we have a full tank of gas a half a package of cigarettes its dark & we are wearing sunglasses.' Jake...'Hit it.'
One of my all time favourite films. The “Country AND Western” scenes are hilarious. The Good ol’ Boys with a very menacing Charles Napier, the “Illinois Nazi’s,” that final epic chase. Then there’s the music and cameo’s. Recently saw the extended cut with longer song segments. 👍🏼
Love it!

They were on a mission from God
My all time favourite film - instantly quotable, the best soundtrack of any film EVER, and the most ridiculous of all storylines - but what a film! On a mission from God!
I was 18 when I first saw it and I'd say I've watched it well over 100 times since. Jake Elwood
Now I feel old.
Besides the set pieces and music, the dialogue is stilted and the humour falls really flat. Never quite understood the love for it
Any immigrant who commits a serious, or any violent crime, should on completion of their sentence be deported, or held in detention until such time as they can be deported. There should be no appeals process for this. No sob stories. No more chances.
