In the Premier League 35% of players are black but there is nowhere near that level in managerial or leadership positions

The Premier League has restarted with every player wearing a Black Lives Matter badge on his sleeve, and with those words replacing the names on their backs. At the start of each game every player, referee and member of staff has taken a knee. It has been incredibly powerful and moving and left me speechless, understanding that the eyes of the world were watching an unprecedented statement of unity against racism during what has been an unprecedented time.

If your being paid to do a job you don't protest. Protest on your own time. They make plenty of money,if they want cameras buy commercial time or hire a camera crew. But if I'm paying for a ticket. I'm not paying to watch you protest throwing your elitist Temper tantrums.

PFA We must not allow our game to be sponsored by CocaColaCo who were found guilty of racial discrimination against their own employees & fined $192m. They bully and intimidate their own employees who want union recognition even though publicly they say they allow union membership

EniAlu You surely can see the cynicism in this? Eleven not awfully bright (generally) lads kneeling down because they lack the wit to think for themselves... and even if they did think, they'd do it to not stand out. It's shameful really.

How about just play football! How can there be racial equality when ALL players get paid fortunes! No one goes into this game with their eyes closed, wake up and just be happy you are living your dream. You will never ever stop the abuse in the terraces!

PFA To use a footballing term.....a huge own goal.

It's a truly pathetic fashion statement unfortunatley...

Ironic as it’s symbolic of submission

If any of the comments on here about this were on the Guardian's website they would be deleted and the posters banned. I've been banned a few times not that hard to get back but they soon ban me again.

Taking the the knee is for cowardly submissive gimps

YES we must celebrate BLM like the gent who just put out the light from the eyes of Reading citizens ?

Its not important in the slightest. Its virtue signalling bullshit forced on people by macarthyist measures.

Taking a knee is the least important thing you could do 😂😂

90% of the public don't agree with these Marxist subjugaters,

This knee thing is silly, demeaning and causing resentment. It's being driven solely by woke pressure.

It is nothing more than a pointless gesture. BLM on jerseys are an embarrassment, taking a knee on a whistle looks like a dog on command. Doesn’t do a thing to address the problem or promote equality. Better than nothing but by not a lot.

This is true. Blacks are massively over represented in the EPL. We need affirmative action.

EniAlu Using the terms “white privilege & white supremacy” in your article about managers and other leadership positions and the idea that you can target an ethnic group with a collective crime or guilt, there is nothing more racist than that. It’s absolutely abhorrent.

Taking a knee and punching the air is the same as a white person doing a hitler salute, BLM is a racist, Marxist, organisation and is about black power not anti-racism

Taking the knee just stirs up more racial tension. Is everyone going to take a knee for the white people murdered in Reading ?

“In the Premier League 35% of players are black but there is nowhere near that level in managerial or leadership positions”, given that UK and Europe are 80-90% white, surely the first thing that needs to be done to tackle inequality is to get more white players?

My kids asked, 'do our lives matter?' watching football because it only had black lives. Why should someone who doesn't involve their kids in such things or teach them to see people differently need to be asked this question on fathers day watching a fucking match?

Would not take the knee!

Probably best to leave politics out of sport.

Kneeling to a false god - not going to solve anything at all.

Forget whites god damn!!! They’re just evil

Only spineless gutless yellowbellied intimidated not got their own minds cucks take the knee. That’s..

Taking a knee is moronic virtue signalling that needs to be stopped.
