Newspaper headlines: Test pledge as government admits to virus mistakes

The Daily Express, like almost all of the papers, leads on Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s pledge to increase coronavirus testing to 100,000 a day by the end of the month. The paper describes it as a “dramatic escalation” of the government’s efforts to tackle the pandemic.Every NHS worker forced to self-isolate has been promised a test by that time, notes the Times.

The Guardian says Downing Street is facing fresh questions over its coronavirus test plan after it emerged the government was hoping to exit the lockdown through so-called “immunity passports” and antibody tests that are still not proven to work. Facing intense criticism, Mr Hancock admitted on Thursday for the first time that mistakes had been made.

It will never happen. Honckock and Johnson are full of shit.

Very easy for politicians to announce big ‘plans’ at times like this,to counter critical headlines.Much harder to deliver them.We should save any praise for new Govt. coronavirus measures if they happen, & work. People are dying, many lives depend on their decisions

tory rags lies and bullshit

Sign the parliamentary petition ‘Emergency National Unity Government’ NOW! BorisJohnson and his ‘govt’ must be replaced by the best cross-party expertise to get us out of this mess and save lives!

Bernie Ecclston Formula 1 boss to be a father again at 89.surely thats a RACE against time

Its only a mistake if it was what you intended in the first place, There comments where just said to make it look like there doing something

Why not concentrate beating the virus instead of keep blaming others

I dont think the uk can afford to give these liars in government a few more weeks grace. We know already, they wont deliver on testing. Sick of watching them dodge questions. These traitors need to be removed as soon as possible before they do more damage to UK society.

Testing is only as good as the test and there are now one in three false negative tests of the CCPVirus

They will make another mistake by testing people for antibody then issuing immunity certificate if they have had it those people although maybe immune still have virus as no cure and can pass on to vulnerable. Certificate should be issued if tested negative

And in 8 weeks when this target is missed? Another 8 weeks? 100k is a fabulously round figure.

Hospitals urged to use lab space to test NHS staffThe advice comes as the government faces growing criticism over a lack of testing for frontline staff. In all fairness the NHS only had three months to prepare for this. Seriously, are any NHS staff at home self diagnosed and self isolating going to go there with the prospect of being tested negative and then being immediately sent to the front line. Instead of being home with a 'cold' and watching Netflix? So there know going to blame the hospitals for not doing the tests on staff.
