Teachers at a UK school are to be given extra days off – to help boost their motivation and wellbeing. It’s hoped the new plan – which will give them an extra day off every fortnight – will also help attract more teachers into the profession.
Adding that he had seen a decline in applications for jobs in recent years, Mr Shelton said he had started to think about different ways to motivate staff members and anyone thinking about joining the profession. According to teacher wellbeing website Education Support 78% of teachers would describe themselves as stressed in the 2023 Teacher Wellbeing Index. Meanwhile, 55% of all staff say their organisation’s culture has a negative effect on their wellbeing.
A Tweet from the school’s account reads: ‘We are excited to announce from September 2024 we are introducing a flexible working arrangement for teaching staff, enabling them to work nine days a fortnight!’ ‘It will be really interesting to see the evaluation of the impact of this on staff and also on results.’
