A look back to how the junction of St Albans Road and Station Road in Watford looked before the road was widened.

If you walk or drive along this major road today you could be forgiven for thinking not a great deal has changed since this picture was taken. A closer examination of the details though, reveal this is not the case.has again teamed up with its friends at Watford Museum to look back at structures, objects or businesses from the town’s past that have either disappeared or been relocated and this week we look back at this view from St Albans Road.

The museum’s volunteer archivist Christine Orchard said: “At first glance this photo of St Albans Road, and the backs of the buildings on Station Road, seems relatively unchanged.“It appears to match a modern view as there is a building on the left, a brick wall runs by the pavement with cars parked beyond and, just visible, a largish building on the far corner of Station Road.

“However, the positions of rear extensions and chimney don’t quite match up. This is because this view from June 1961 shows how this corner looked before buildings were demolished to widen St Albans Road.”We want our comments to be a lively and valuable part of our community - a place where readers can debate and engage with the most important local issues. Greek Pitta in St Albans Road for SaleThe Greek Pitta in St Albans Road is inviting offers in excess of £90,000 from anyone looking to take over and serve its existing customer base. The rent would then be £6,230 quarterly. The owner mentioned that he also has another business in Bedfordshire, where he lives, and it had become difficult to juggle both roles. He is therefore looking to sell it on to someone who can continue from the position the business is in. There is, however, no requirement that a new owner would continue to run the unit as The Greek Pitta so they could offer a different cuisine. Nova Estate Agents Luton, said: “Located in the heart of Watford's bustling high street on St Albans Road, The Greek Pitta offers a fantastic opportunity for entrepreneurs looking to enter the thriving food industry. This established Greek takeaway is a haven for lovers of Mediterranean cuisine and boasts a prime position in a high footfall area.
