Shoppers feeling the pinch every time they do a food shop could soon feel some of that pressure ease, with figures revealing a slight drop in the price of groceries since this time last year.
Online grocery prices were up 0.1 per cent between January and February, although this compares to a 5.3 per cent increase seen between January and February last year. In addition to food, pet products were also 0.5 per cent cheaper than a year ago, according to Adobe Analytics price tracking, based on online transactions.Across all categories, UK online retail prices were on average 8.2 per cent lower in February 2024, compared with last February.
This February's figures were also distorted by the leap year providing an extra day of shopping, boosting total spending to £8.8 billion. Without this additional day, online spending for the month was 1.9 per cent higher than last February, Adobe said.
