Racing’s rulers should consider a reduction in the number of runners in the Grand National, according to David Muir, racing consultant for the RSPCA

and World Horse Welfare. Saturday’s Grand National was the first since 2012 in which a runner suffered fatal injuries, when Up For Review was brought down by a faller at the first fence.

Should b stopped. Poor horses.

We have this every year!

Cut it to 20 and rename it the Gordon Elliot National...…..these people will ruin it.

Starter to finisher ratio for the season is worse than for a Saga holiday!

or we could quit killing horses for sport...

They do cut the numbers.... With a spike to the brain.

Tiger Roll makes repeat win look easy to join Grand National greatsNo sporting contest makes ‘what-might-have-been’ stories like the Grand National and there have been numerous horses who have tried to emulate Red Rum since 1974 Stop promoting animal abuse. Please do not promote the exploitation of these beautiful animals anymore. Horse racing IS NOT SPORT!!! I shouldn’t have to say this to the Guardian. Its was engineered magnificently the win but is overshadowed with the fact that 3 beautiful animals have died at this festival of racing. This is not acceptable.
