Some said they approved of the changes.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has criticised changes to Roald Dahl books, after the removal of some references to things like characters' appearance and weight sparked a fierce debate.

His Dark Materials author Philip Pullman told BBC Radio 4 that Dahl's books "should be allowed to fade away" rather than be changed if they are deemed offensive. She told the BBC World Service: "I think it's been done quite sensitively. Take the word 'fat'. They've used 'enormous'. If anything, I actually think 'enormous' is even funnier.

"Now, there might be an argument that that's offensive in today's world," Dougherty continued. "I think if you're going to decide that, then the only answer is to put the book out of print. I don't think you can say, 'So let's change Dahl's words but keep the character'."after being criticised for some descriptions,"Augustus Gloop is a greedy character.

"I think the sort of the nastiness is what makes Dahl so much fun," she told 5 Live. "You love it when, in Matilda, Bruce Bogtrotter is forced to eat that whole chocolate cake, or you are locked up in the Chokey [a torture device] - that's what children love. The Roald Dahl Story Company worked with publishers Puffin and Inclusive Minds, a collective working towards inclusion and accessibility in children's literature.

Roald Dahl’s books edited to remove potentially offensive language – reportsIt's reported that a number of edits have been made to the latest editions of books such as Charlie And The Chocolate Factory and James And The Giant Peach. Ridiculous! Sounds sensible. Why would anyone object to caring for others' feelings? I would boycott any edition of a book that has been altered without the authors permission, be they living or dead.

Roald Dahl book rewrites branded 'absurd censorship' by Salman RushdieContent deemed offensive, such as references to weight, mental health, violence, gender and race have been removed or rewritten to ensure Dahl's classics can be enjoyed by all children, the publishers said. Lying has become the accepted way. We lie to our children about everything from the wars to childrens books. Today's life is a lie. University approved lies. Come on children, go to school and get educated in lies and lying. Why does our generation think it has the right to change everything and rewrite history of people who aren't alive to tell their side? Absolutely disgusting. Encouraged and platformed non-stop by our left wing media. Famous 5 about to be culled next…..
