By Helen BushbyA review of the BBC's reporting of government financial policies has said it is not biased towards one particular political position, but there are things "that put impartiality at risk".
It added: "Curiously these lean left and right. That makes a charge of systematic political bias in this area hard to sustain." "For example... we think too many journalists lack understanding of basic economics or lack confidence reporting it. This brings a high risk to impartiality. In the period of this review, it particularly affected debt.
The authors said there was "widespread appreciation" of the BBC's coverage, but they were "disturbed" by how many viewers, listeners and readers said they did not understand it. But it said this was "no less serious and raises questions for the BBC and its journalists about what kind of journalism they want to do and how to do it".They added that "significant interests and perspectives" on the economy could be better served, and gave indications about how the BBC could improve editorial standards.
Can we have an independent report not one commissioned by the BBC
I love the BBC. It's bloody brilliant. All TV and radio and weird stuff that no one else can make money out of. And they broadcast it! The best £152 I spend ever year. lovebbc bbc
Look. Tell the truth.
Really From the Begum Broadcasting Corporation and the Brussels Broadcasting corporation. 😂👏
Joke, totally biased.
'Review... commissioned by the BBC Board' I don't need to read anymore. The review in itself is biased.
Marked your own homework?
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Absolute bollocks!
For Sir Andrew Dilnot to sign off on: 'Much could apply at least equally to other UK media' Shows a lack of understanding of the BBC remit. Other UK media does not have to follow the Royal Charter requirements. michelledonelan
See, now what we have here is a problem of trust, that you and your government, banking and Russian friends have lost.
What rubbish. I cant watch the BBC news at the moment. Its completely biased in favour of this Government. Channel 4 or CNN or even Sky until the BBC starts to report what is actually going on rather than whitewashing Brexit and other economic problems.
You pushed the Austerity false narrative; you ignored Brexit, and repeat the nonsense about Government finances being like a household budget.
Child marks own homework. Gets a solid B+.
Few weeks ago the right was saying the organisation was left then suddenly they hear the boss and board was a government appointment it’s all change.
Really! Shock horror! You mean those Lefties at the enforced tax funded bias BBC are Bias! No Sh1t Sherlock!
