The Nottingham Operatic Society gave a ‘truly scrumptious’ performance of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at Nottingham Theatre Royal. With a cast of around 60 people, fabulous costumes and skilful acting, the society really outdid themselves this year.
Daisy Hamilton and Freddie Vokes stole the hearts of the audience as Jemima and Jeremy Potts, and Louise Grantham was a divine Truly Scrumptious. It was also a pleasant surprise to see Mark Coffey-Bainbridge as Caractacus Potts, as I also saw him do a brilliant job as Charlie Price in the Carlton Operatic Society’s production of Kinky Boots earlier this year.
Of course Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was one of my favourite songs of the night, but Doll on a Music Box and Toot Sweets were also brilliant. However, Husshabye mountain was pure perfection, and I even shed a tear when the ghost of Mrs Potts appeared. Meanwhile Kate Williams and Simon Theobald were fantastic choices for the Baron and Baroness, truly embracing their characters. The same can be said for James Ellison, who gave a spine chilling performance as the Childcatcher.
