A West Bridgford pub known for its welcoming feel and hearty food has celebrated a huge milestone. Stratford Haven, better known as the 'Strat', locally reached its 25th anniversary on Friday, May 17.
Managing Director, Colin Wilde remembers The Bread & Lard' had also been a strong contender, which was a nod to the town's old nickname, 'Bread and Lard Island'. The pub group still has the original letter from Kay Tomlinson, aged 81 at the time, with various name suggestions. These included the winning ‘Stratford Haven’, inspired by the pub’s location on Stratford Road.
Before the building was a pub, it used to be a pet shop. Tom Eccles, general manager at the Stratford Haven, said: "I used to walk past the pet shop going to and from school as a kid. "Not to mention the countless crazy match days and the unforgettable Christmas Eves.” Castle Rock’s operations director, Vicki Saxby, has also shared her thoughts on the special anniversary.
