Peter Stevenson appeared from custody for sentencing at Glasgow Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to being in possession of the communication devices at HMP Barlinnie.
The 24-year-old was caught with a non-prison issued sim card in a phone on February 23, last year as well as May 6 last year.Stevenson, from Sandyhills, was on remand for a road traffic offence when he appeared on May 8 but was due to be released the following day.His lawyer said: “There is no escaping his record. He is disappointed with himself for finding himself back in custody. He’s absolutely desperate to break the cycle.
“I would ask you to help allow him to break the cycle by not imposing a custodial sentence. He’s been in and out of custody since he was 18.“His partner is pregnant. He doesn’t have any family members that he’s close to but his partner and her family have stated they will be there to support him and that’s something he very much values.”
Sheriff Mary Shields said: “Everything that could be said has been said, but having sim cards in prison is a serious matter.”Readers’ comments: You are personally liable for the content of any comments you upload to this website, so please act responsibly.
