Boris Johnson insists an autumn election 'hadn't occurred to him' despite Tory rebel warnings he could use a snap poll to avoid the Commons Privileges Committee probe into whether he misled Parliament

It comes as The Good Law Project announced on Wednesday it would take formal legal action against the Metropolitan Police for their “apparent continued failure to properly investigate” Partygate.

Current and former Downing Street workers will be able to give evidence to the committee anonymously, ramping up the danger to Mr Johnson of disillusioned staffers handing over damaging material including photos, emails and videos. Other witnesses who could be called include the Prime Minister’s wife Carrie Johnson and his former advisor Dominic Cummings.
