A man in a hi-vis vest who appeared to be working for a security company, said Lambeth Bridge was where the queue would start and people would get white wristbands showing their place in the queue and that they could leave to go to the toilet and get food.
So far, no official details have been set out for the route of the queue. The BBC reports the protocol for queuing is set to be released on Tuesday evening. The monarch is expected to lie in state in Westminster Hall from 5pm on Wednesday until 6.30am on the day of her funeral, Monday 19 September. In a statement, the Department of Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said: “Those wishing to attend will be required to queue for many hours, possibly overnight.
Ms Nanthakumaran said she was determined to come and pay her respects to the Queen as she had with the late Princess of Wales.“It will be happy and sad, I want to pay my respects and say some prayers although I know we are going to be moving fast.” Grace Gothard who turned up later, also said she would be queuing overnight. She had brought a jar of marmalade and had a cut-out figure of the Queen, and had a Union Jack flag tied around her shoulders.
Number four and five in the queue are Tony Jones and Tony Rowland, who have donned matching outfits and both want to pay their respects to the Queen.Mr Jones said he was once employed as a royal butler to run the room where the Queen took tea at the Royal Ascot races. He was employed by the Randolph butlers service between 1999 and 2006.
What empty lives these people must lead.
