NHS chief warns of second coronavirus wave – as mass flu jab roll out planned

THE NHS is preparing for a second wave of coronavirus and is planning to roll out their "biggest ever" flu jab programme, its boss has warned.

Asked if the NHS was preparing for a second wave, Sir Simon said: "Yes, it is entirely possible there will be."And the risk is many of the symptoms are interchangeable."The ability to give early warnings to hospitals where there are those local increases and I think we are going to need the biggest-ever flu immunisation season we have ever had."

"But there is still quite considerable uncertainty as to how you would administer it, would it be two doses or one?"But clearly that would be a major gain were we able to get it."Sir Simon said there could be "very significant" extra costs to the NHS later this year around the flu vaccination campaign, personal protective equipment and sustaining extra hospital beds.

Sir Simon also spoke about calls for pay increases for NHS staff after unions representing more than 1.3 million nurses, cleaners and paramedics wrote to the Chancellor and Prime Minister about the issue.

NHS preparing for coronavirus second wave, says chief executiveSir Simon Stevens believes it is 'entirely possible' that second wave will hit the UK this winter A near certainty and we should use the time to prepare. Instead we are normalizing dangerous behavior like going to the pub and gyms. The logic appears to be we can shut them then, but it will have spread again by the time the government reluctantly reverses its decision to open. One key factor being missing is the growing evidence that 74% of cases are asymptomatic and so Track and Trace will not function. People who feel fine won't isolate. This explains how and why the virus spread so rapidly in many countries even though they were locked down. Dont have Negative thinking Think good it wil happen

National landmarks to light up in blue to celebrate NHS staffThe LightItBlue campaign will recognise frontline workers as the NHS turns 72 A real headline would be that NHS staff are paid enough so they don't need charity to eat, that a billionaire has ended world hunger by spending less than 1% of their wealth or Boris told the truth. But yeah those blue lights look pwetty. Sure the heroic NHS staff love it. I think they'd rather a slower easing of lockdown, and perhaps a wee pay raise, no?
