NHS Covid app updated to 'fix' phantom messages

The NHS Covid-19 app has been updated to fix an issue with confusing alerts that pop up suggesting exposure to the virus and then disappear. In fact, the messages are a default privacy notification from either Apple or Google, which provide the underlying contact-tracing technology.

Scotland and Northern Ireland have apps of their own, which have not experienced the "phantom alert" problem. Typical messages read: "Possible Covid-19 exposure. Someone you were near reported having Covid-19. Exposure date, duration and signal strength have been saved."

No update to new tier level as of this morning 🙄

Had 6 messages. Update last night incorrectly raised risk level in area. Then in the middle of the night I had three more messages. One saying the risk level changed (it had reduced it) one saying exposure (disappeared on opening) one about not being at risk just social distance

Had this twice, messages disappeared even without being able to read them properly. Left me searching on the app and checking my emails. Found this information through a search because I was worried so not from the app itself. Very concerning, very poor.

The app doesn't work because the free code is now full of data mining code then complied it thats why all the false positives They have not released the updated source code for people to check it So far it has issued one real alert And it cost 12 billion for a free code ?

World beating . Well done Doris and Dildo.

Sammiee_J Maybe this is what was happening with mine. 😂

And this is exactly why I haven't downloaded the app. A complete waste of time

Another roaring success hey...

I got that message last Friday and disappeared as I was reading it

Probably using an old Excel spreadsheet...

It’s a Serco app not NHS

You have mis described the SERCO/Tory CrapApp

SERCO app. I heard Serco get £900 every time someone is traced. Is this true?

UK? This is England, BBC. Can for once can you make it clear?! We have our own app in Scotland!!

Is anyone using it?

Hey beeb. Who writes and owns the code for the app? I thought the NHS was into like medical care and stuff not software and app development?

I’m getting this message repeatedly: ‘The BBC is shit’..is that phantom!?

Can it fix the phantom virus?

This app is not fit for this purpose 👌

£12 Billion.

NHS doesn’t have a Covid app. It’s a private app.

Please stop calling it an NHS app, it isn’t.

If only scenes like this were allowed again oh wait

Taxpayer money is being spaffed on this cavalcade of incompetence...

NHS doesn’t have a Covid app. It’s a private app.
