That problem could be easily solved if it wasn't for left wing policy. For one you can have prisoners as pickers. Van pick ups. Work for social benefits. Abolish unemployment benefits. Lots more ideas like that. It really is that simple. First you got to get rid of lefties

I'm available £800 a day for provincial work. £1500 nearer London. Ok, so strawbs might cost £10 each, but hey ho, I'll pick 'em, you sell 'em. 🤗Thanks

The Guardian seems confused. It moans about standards being driven to the bottom, then moans about a policy that will quote clearly drive up wages due to supply and demand.

Priti Patel...a name long associated with British migrant labour... says 'Let them use Brexiteers'...Hahaha .....thus opening the emergency doors to a million unhappy bonded-laborer-Patel-extras waiting with their Indian gang-labour bosses in the wings....to wipe the white-arse.

Racist

As a guy from Germany i have to realize that left UK-based magazines publish the same nonsense than left Germany-based magazines. Alerta!

Former car factory workers

Lol lazy brits can pick now 😂😂😂

ResistUK1 15 year old kids.

This statement makes no sense. If there is a demand for workers in certain areas, then why aren't salaries reflecting the demand. Just because pay is just above threshold does not mean this is sufficient. More pay for workers with less on profit.

A rather strange leap from the desire to make racists happy to saying this daft policy will be good for the uk, No doubt the Government as ever will study the effects carefully and review as required. Patelic

At the job centre?

1 million plus unemployed, how about we start there.

Sitting on their arse watching Jeremy Kyle re-runs once their single mum benefits are stopped.

Sounds like a good job for your Labour commies who've never had to get their hands dirty.

Up BorisJohnson arse?

From the million plus people currently fit to work but aren't What should happen is the farms pay better money to attract workers

Amongst your cabinet ministers

It will have to take the lazy twats off the dole and make them work or have nothing and give people free training for HGV Lisences etc...

There were 6 million migrants working in uk in 2018. About 80% are low skilled, that is 4.8m. Will brits filler those places? I doubt that.

Well here's a picker for you!!

UK should have US-style 'labour ready' - Rock up, get shipped out, do a days work, get paid 😁

Maybe from its own god damn citizenry.

Gender studies graduates...

Some folks better start exercising. Denial will last only as long as there's something to eat. After that, you pick or don't eat.

Yawn. Like we didn’t see this coming Loads of job opportunities for Brits though. If they’d want those sort of jobs

They’ll find them by investing in automation. Slave labour impedes innovation. It’s not good for the economy nor the country.

In the UK

We just need to think positively. Apparently that cures every potential post Brexit issue.

Why is the Guardian opposed to wage increases for the workers?

Lots of uneducated brits out there to do it.

Oh that’s an easy one: in Cornwall and other Brexit voting counties

New jobs for the homeless

Where will Guardian journalists find their nannies?

Who will we exploit if we can't get cheap labour overseas? Really? You think that's the real problem here? What kind of socialists are you?

They tried this in the US state of Georgia. Fruit ended up just rotting in the fields.

Who picked the fruit before we joined the EU?

If theSNP NicolaSturgeon and co keep handing out LIFESENTENCES see sickmedicalexperiments AND DISTRACTING with eg derekmackay( see everyone was talking about him and not scotbudget) AUOB etc. where are Humanrights for immigrants? & all. guardian

But there are over a million at home on the dole collecting state benefits. Surely some of these can help.!

I'm sure those who are vehemently opposed to immigration are looking for jobs, yes?

Seriously though, people just have to get used to the fact that wages may well go up in these sectors, and you’ll need to pay more for your strawbrees!
