Neighbours have described seeing a "horrendous" fire at a Mansfield bungalow which led to the death of a woman in her 60s. Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue confirmed firefighters were called to Muskham Court in the early hours of Thursday to the incident.
A small police presence still remained on Muskham Court on Thursday evening, with the affected bungalow cordoned off. Neighbours said the entrance to the court had been closed off for much of the day. One man, who has lived in the area for nine years, said: "I didn't know who lived there but it's obviously very sad that she has died. We were in when it happened and all we heard was someone screaming 'fire, fire'.
A woman who has lived in the area for two years said: "I only really knew the lady to speak to now and again, but she was always very nice and would always say hello if she saw you in the street. It's horrendous what's happened and we were all in because it was the early hours of the morning.
