The (mostly male) bosses calling for a return to the office have little concept of working parenthood, and are potentially pushing away more well-qualified workers 🖋️ rebeccaoco

To bosses laying out broad-brush rules with apparently little concept of working parenthood, potentially pushing away yet more well-qualified workers, I say: It is your loss. Executives may see the working parents that are making it into the office and take this as evidence that it is possible for all.

It could also include having a high enough household income for private school that offers an “all-in” working hours service, having willing and able parents who can help every single day, or having flexible working arrangements. This is not just to keep people in jobs and keep productivity higher, but to keep them in pensions, too.

If the “get back to the office” memos are stressing you out or if you are struggling to hold down a job because you need more flexibility around children and cannot get it, here are some tips to help: • If you need help getting back to work after a period of time out, returner programmes could be a good place to start
