A MUM claims she was forced to wait nine hours for an ambulance after her four-year-old son broke his arm – and was instead told to get a £80 taxi to hospital.
Jayne Wright, from Heybridge, Essex, took her children to her local playground and her youngest son Sidney fell off an 8ft slide.His mum claims he was forced to wait nine hours for an ambulance to arriveAn ambulance finally arrived at the family’s home at 5.20am the following day and Ms Wright was left feeling “disgusted”.
She has also accused the paramedics of being “rude” but the ambulance service has said the incident happened at a time of extremely high demand.It said patients with life-threatening conditions were being prioritised, reports Essex Live.: “I watched him fall. He was crying and screaming and his arm was floppy, but I didn't want to phone 999 and waste their time.I told them that a taxi would cost us £45 normally but £80 because it was now Good Friday.
"The clinician said we must have family or friends who could take us, but I said if I didn't think he needed to be seen I wouldn't have rung you, and it turns out he'd snapped his wrist.Sidney was eventually taken to Broomfield Hospital at 5.20am and an x-ray confirmed he had broken his wrist.

Really? My son snapped his femur but we managed to get to hospital without the need of an ambulance!

I’m sorry I can’t cope with this.. my boyfriend is a paramedic and has been to 11 cardiac arrests since beginning of April, they are battling to save life threatening illnesses and you are complaining of a wait cause of a broken arm 🙄

My son had a gaping wound in his head when he was 9 and we had to wait 5 hours, blood was spurting out prior to placing a towel over it, they didn’t take me serious when I tried explaining it wasn’t just a small cut!
Same happened to my son, 999 said not urgent. Well it was, major surgery & nearly lost his arm due to crushed artery and blood clot. Hospital staff said that they should have attended regardless if he was talking. They can not see what we can on a phone!!
Yes the kid was probably in pain but it wasn't life threatening so of course they had to prioritise people with life threatening conditions. It isn't first come first served
I feel sorry for the child in this, made to wait for treatment. Would be better for the child if the mum made her own way. Making the child wait 9 hours is ridiculous, it wasn't a life threatening injury!!

If my 4 year old had snapped his wrist, I’d ask a complete stranger to help me. She’s trying to cover up the fact she didn’t realise he was hurt and waited for a ambulance instead of getting him to the hospital.
And the reason the sun is pulling the ambulance service down is.....? This is not shockihgbor news worthy! Would your editors think a ambulance is needed for this non emergency! The system is at breaking point and this so called mother calls an ambulance and even aunts for it!
Could she not get him into hospital herself, ambulances are for emergencies ie life or death situations! I would have gotten a taxis or called a neighbours help! Leaving their kid in agony for 9hrs really!

My child (19) had a fall and completely dislocated her elbow, she had to get a taxi and was seen at one of the busiest hospitals within minutes. Making a child wait nine hours knowing he’s in pain is absolutely disgusting...you’ll always find a way if your child is hurt!!

I’d pay the taxi fare for my child ! I’d make a plan and not let my boy suffer for hours. Nice family and friends she has - no one would drive him 🙄

I wouldnt dream of phoning an ambulance for that , iv got 2 grown up sons but when they were young both had various accidents and it was a taxi straight to hospital , even if it was my last £10 , people like this infuriate me !
Even if she took home to a&e she would still have to wait as it’s not an open break (bone sticking out of skin) and there is no blood present as well as it. It being life threatening

Sorry but if you thought your kid had broken (or even hurt badly) their arm, you wouldn’t ring 111...you’d take them to A&E...regardless of cost or inconvenience to you. I’m sure the ambulance service and NHSEngland apologise for prioritising those more in need nonstory
WTF it’s a broken arm he wasn’t dying a friend a neighbour a family member could have taken him instead she wasted an ambulance that could be dealing with a life or death situation!! The fracture was not an open one so I wouldn’t have called it an emergency 🤬🤬

8.30pm buses still running, the mother was just to lazy. Ambulances are for emergencies you know like heart attacks, road traffic accidents, a person who has stopped breathing etc not I'm too lazy to get the bus or too cheap to pay for a taxi.

Who calls an ambulance for a broken arm anyway? Ambulances are for emergencies, a broken arm is not an emergency!! Get a bus, taxi, a lift off someone or drive the child to hospital yourself.

Unfortunately a broken arm is not life threatening! They have to prioritise seeing people! She can’t say she knows no one with a car! I wouldn’t have even thought of calling an ambulance for that and would have got them to hospital myself!
