A mum who has fled domestic violence has spoken of her desperation to find a home for her family after being forced to leave a women’s refuge following a fire.
Just days later on Wednesday, April 3 the woman claims she was then told by staff at the hotel she had to check out. She says she called the temporary accommodation team at Oldham Council who told her to wait with her children in the lobby.A spokesperson for Oldham Council confirmed that evacuated residents were relocated due to the hotel they were placed in initially having existing bookings.
“All our clothes were at the temporary accommodation where the fire was. I spent the voucher on nappies, milk and clean pyjamas for the kids. I had to get my daughter two pairs because she has eczema. How does that £50 cover the cost for my food?”, she said. She claims she is still waiting to hear when her family will be moved back into the women’s refuge and has been warned it may not be for weeks.
“We are high priority. But there is no luck with any houses. They are not allocating to us they are allocating to those of higher priority but if we’re not high priority who is? After the fire they could have allocated us a house but they put us in a hotel,” she said.
