Brexit delay voted through by MPs: What just happened?

Pro- and anti-Brexit demonstrators argued outside Parliament as debate raged inside, too

The primary aim of the amendment is to make sure that Britain can't leave the EU on 31 October without legislation in place. He says he'll introduce legislation to leave at the end of the month, giving MPs a choice of his deal or no deal. In addition, a law passed weeks ago said that if Mr Johnson didn't have a deal done by midnight on Saturday, 19 October, he'd have to ask the EU for another extension. What happened today?

Boring

if you actually did your job and explained that what just happened wasn't a vote for delay, people might be a little less frustrated by the situation, and relieved that parliament is doing it's job properly.

BBC forgot to check facts?

'Don't worry, the bbcnews are still running misleading headlines on your behalf'

What's happened is yet again the BiasedBBC has got its headline wrong. The vote was to allow mps time to scrutinise the deal and not vote thru bozotheclown deal that makes the rich richer and the stupid racist poor, poorer

This headline is simply wrong. MPs did not vote to 'delay' Brexit. They voted to withhold approval of the Deal unless all the necessary legislation is passed first. BBCpropaganda BBClies

Stop distorting Brexit news and report the truth

bbcnews it wasn’t a delay it’s a chance to scrutinise the proposal. You know the idea don’t sign anything without reading it sort of thing. Only con men gain when you are forced to sign on an artificial deadline.

Orrrrrr alternative headline: Parliament wants to consider Brexit deal properly rather than on the hoof because it’s important to get it right.

Come on Brexiteers, you lost, get over it

Do better

MPs voted to scrutinise the deal - why is this a bad thing ?

I remember when the BBC at least made an attempt to avoid lying. Your reputation for integrity and impartiality is not invulnerable though, and a constant offering of untruths such as the above will see it off completely.

Now we report from Broadcasting House an area that voted leave in the 2016 referendum...

Please do journalism = state facts, not political interpretations.

Do you have a problem? Above not accurate, not the truth. Is this due to incompetence? Or is it editorial Johnsonitis, creating drama rather than reporting accurately?

RRowanOlive lol

Not only the headline but the story on this tweet is inaccurate. Letwin amendment said parliament must pass necessary legislation after MPs have had the opportunity to read relevant documentation

When are we going to mobilise and start taking action. Parliament is destroying our democracy.

Not a delay

Lies

Talking about missing content on an headline

When the wold will be resigned to the new reallity? Brexity is gonna happen, Trump is the President of the United States, Bolsonaro is the President of Brasil, Macron is an idiot who can't do the chores in his own house, Greta is just a kid and Lula is in prision.

This is wrong. MPs did not vote to 'delay' Brexit. If the govt can get legislation through by the end of the month, we will leave then. If not this merely stops us falling out without a deal then.

What has happened and is happening is simple , this country is now a dictatorship led by berk off and remainers they never wanted to leave the EU from the start despite telling the people they would abide by the result , they will do anything and everything to stop democracy.

Just regarding the Benn act, it is a good example of political motivations, manouvering and how things can change. Before the Benn act was thought up and voted on, Boris Johnson set a solid deadline and soundbite that 'we are leaving on the 31st October come what may'. Once this

If this is an amendment to the government brexit deal proposal and this proposal was not voted on surely this means the amendment is null and void as the proposed legislation was not even moved let alone passed

So is Boris going to write a letter requesting a delay or not

Shame on you Parliament. You are all a disgrace and embarrassment to your country. Whatever is ever done at the end of this process..democracy and trust in elected MPs in this country is dead. We are a laughing stock. My 7yr old shows more maturity than any one of you.

The EU fifth columnists once again stuck two fingers up to democracy.

These are not leaders in parliament, these are procrastinators.

I wonder how much could if been accomplished without the Brexit back and forth bun fight.

Nodeal it is then... hurrah!

We are even more pathetic than before......bloody remainers, opposition who are wrecking the whole of the UK

This country is messed up

Now we see why the MPs didn't allow an election, they would have all been kicked out! The demonstration is nothing against the silent majority fuming in front of their TVs today.

What happened was that Letwin and Speaker Bercow connived to stitch up the British people, that’s what happened.

What happened was once again some remainer MPs trying to stop the outcome of the referendum

night If you tell me anything I'd have to fact check it.

Kuensberg loving it

What a joke typical MPs lining their pockets and don’t care what the people voted for.

We have been shafted yet again.time to start the riots I think.

Democracy in action that’s what happened. Where you standing outside? Did you hear us in Parliament Square? That’s the sound of the people.

No deal just hot voted through. Muppets

Voter contempt

A quick question. When we joined the EU how many countries were in it. Everytime a country joined, did we have a say, the public I mean not MPs. Everytime a rule was changed did the public have another vote. Don't recall those happening.

Another very disappointing super Saturday

Boris got a deal which labour said they couldn't. Labour spots dummy out again, and lib dems are just a joke.

An affront to democracy

Those ‘looking on’ laugh a little more, laugh a little louder !

The public just got slapped in the balls....

'What just happened?' The electorate have been betrayed again!
