Boris Johnson told MPs he was not compelled by the law to ask the EU for a Brexit delay, prompting furious responses from opposition leaders

The Labour leader, Jeremy Corbyn, told Johnson he must comply with the Benn Act and the SNP’s leader, Ian Blackford, warned the PM would find himself in court if he refused. The Lib Dem leader, Jo Swinson, asked for parliament to be suspended so Johnson could write to the EU.

Boris don't ask for a delay we voted to leave leave voter are behind you

Weary of Boris. Poor us . Poor U.K.

The Benn act says the PM by law has to ask for an extension. If he fails to do this then what actually happens, taken to court? if found guilty he's sentenced to what? will he go to prison? community service? is he still the PM?

That's the spirit Boris. Burry any chance of your deal passing, by reminding MPs that you don't give a shit for the parliament. He has always been Remain's greatest ally.

Another dictating, stop him or any Democratic lawmaking goes down the tubes

I guess he doesn't want to die in a ditch

He said he wouldn’t *negotiate* a delay, didn’t say he wouldn’t ask for one
