Statement follows outcry from politicians about attempts to limit press freedom

Scotland Yard performed a climbdown on Saturday following accusations it had attempted to use the furore over the leaking of comments by the British ambassador about President Trump to silence the British media.

TheStephenRalph Justice derailed by weak police and bent politicians. When the Nazis take over, no sympathy from me.

There’s a surprise. Police despise the Press....unless publicity is in their interest. What a PR disaster. And how much the police rely on good PR.

Entirely agree that the freedom of the press is “vital”. However, if material passed to them breached the Official Secrets Act and harmed National Security (not just being an embarrassment) then the 'Leaker' and the 'Publisher' could both still be subject to prosecution.

While everyone of profile has the vapours and/or runs for cover and Trump whines and the Met/SB run smoke, it'll be the Security Service that quietly (and unpleasantly, as is their way) put the file* together. *CPS'll never see it, not for their use

Who forced this change? The next PM?

Was it him or was it his driver that did the u-turn?
