Thousands of Manchester City fans are in Madrid for the quarter final tie with Real Madrid, while Arsenal host Bayern Munich

The Metropolitan Police has issued a statement after an apparent threat was issued by terror group Islamic State referencing this week's Champions League knock-out football matches.

Over 2,000 agents from the National Police and Civil Guard are set to operate a surveillance in Madrid over the next 24 hours, reports the Mirror. Deputy Assistant Commissioner Ade Adelekan, overseeing the policing of London today, said: "The UK terrorism threat level remains at 'substantial' meaning an attack is likely, and we work closely with colleagues from across Counter Terrorism Policing in planning for events here in London, to take into account any relevant information that could help us to keep those attending safe.

"As ever, we ask the public to remain vigilant, and if they see anything that doesn’t look or feel right, then report it to police or security staff."
