Five weather warnings have been issued as Storm Ciarán is set to bring heavy rain across the UK. A number of weather warnings for rain have been issued by the Met Office from Sunday to Thursday .
“This deep low-pressure system will also bring heavy rain to much of the UK, but the heaviest rain is expected in southern and western areas with 20 to 25mm quite widely across the region but up to 40 to 60mm potentially over higher ground. Heavy and persistent rain will fall onto already saturated ground bringing a risk of further impacts such as flooding in areas that are already struggling to clean up from the heavy rainfall we have seen over the last week or so.
The Met Office's warning for Thursday is for "very strong and potentially damaging" winds associated with Storm Ciarán. As of Sunday , the warning says there a "slight chance" of damage to buildings and homes with roofs blown off and power lines brought down. It adds: "There is a small chance flying debris will result in a danger to life."
The wind warning covers huge swathes of the south, including the east, south east, Greater London, south west, Wales and Herefordshire. Rain warnings are also in place from today until Wednesday, affecting England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
