“I’ve been watching MasterChef in its early formation almost from the beginning in the 90s and actually, in 2001, I was in the MasterChef South-West and Wales regional final, a televised round. The series was presented by the late Gary Rhodes, a charming man. In this series you had to cook to a brief; I remember cooking prawn and asparagus risotto and, for dessert, buckwheat pancakes with apple compote and a toffee sauce. My wife remembers eating this meal at least five times in two weeks.
My passion for food comes from my childhood in Sardinia, Italy. I think there’s something magical about how food brings people together. Back in Sardinia, Sundays meant a big family feast with loads of delicious treats. My cooking heroes are my family, especially my mom Rita, aunt Lisa, and my grandma, Speranza. She passed away when I was young, but her influence is still very much alive! They all taught me how to cook and also shaped the way I see the world, my beliefs, and who I am.
“My earliest MasterChef memory goes back to my time in Italy. The Italian version of MasterChef is quite distinct from the British one! When I moved to the UK and watched MasterChef with John and Gregg, my perception of the show underwent a complete transformation. They are genuinely kind and supportive, and I find that MasterChef highlights diversity and representation of the UK so well. Since I started watching, I've dreamt of being on the show and sharing my love for food with the world.
