Manchester will see significantly higher temperatures this weekend, but it comes at a cost

According to the latest Met Office forecast, temperatures in Manchester will reach as high as 23C on Saturday afternoon, May 11. At the same time, many people's favourite holiday spot, Ibiza, will fall slightly behind with temperatures ranging between 15C and 22C.

However, the beautiful weather will not last with a yellow thunderstorm warning put in place near the end of the weekend. From 12pm on Sunday, May 12 to 10pm, parts of the North West of England and Wales have been warned to expect heavy showers and thunderstorms that could lead to travel disruptions and potential flooding. In light of this, the Met Office said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to some disruption in places, especially to travel.

It adds: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out in the south of this area late Sunday morning and early Sunday afternoon, moving steadily north whilst growing into larger areas of rain before clearing the area. Some intense downpours are possible in a few places, giving up to 30mm in less than hour and perhaps 40-50 mm over two to three hours leading to surface water flooding. Hail, frequent lightning strikes and strong wind gusts will be additional localised hazards.

Despite wetter conditions, however, temperatures will remain exceptionally high across Greater Manchester, peaking at 22C. This will begin to change by next week though, with early predictions from the Met Office forecasting slightly lower temperatures of 17C with much more rain and darker skies expected.

In its summary forecast for next week, the Met Office said: "Heavy and thundery showers likely on Sunday before rain and blustery winds return from the southwest on Monday and Tuesday, and feeling cooler."
