'Serious and potentially debilitating' impact of long Covid on health is being recognised, Wales health minister says

Ms Morgan said the approach in Wales was based on the principle of helping people "as close to home" as possible.

The recovery programme will be reviewed every six months, to take into account the latest global research on what is a new, but potentially very serious condition.Grandmother Helen James already had underlying health worries when she caught Covid, not just once, but twice.She was left "fighting for every breath".

Helen called for a "joined up" consultant-led approach for long Covid patients, and has told the minister personally in a meeting.Up to 50,000 people in Wales have reported having long Covid symptoms In May, the Office for National Statistics estimated that one million people across the UK living in private households had self-reported long Covid, with symptoms that have lasted more than four weeks after the initial infection.The new recovery programme has been welcomed by the Royal College of GPs in Wales.
