Liz Truss has been accused of throwing Kwasi Kwarteng 'under a bus' by saying the decision to cut income tax for the richest was made by the Chancellor and not Cabinet

Liz Truss has been accused of throwing Kwasi Kwarteng "under a bus" by saying the decision to cut income tax for the richest was made by the Chancellor and not Cabinet.

The plans to abolish the 45 per cent tax rate on incomes above £150,000 a year in England, Wales and Northern Ireland has caused anger during the cost-of-living crisis, even among some Conservative MPs. "No, no, we didn't. It was a decision the Chancellor made," she told the BBC's Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg.

"However, there is a balance and throwing your Chancellor under a bus on the first day of conference really isn't it," she said. Fingers crossed, she added, "things improve and settle down from now".

Liz Truss confirms tax cuts for the rich were ‘Kwarteng’s decision’Liz Truss has admitted she ‘should have laid the ground better’ before the mini-budget sparked a market meltdown. Blame game How could a prime minister not know what a chancellor is going to say in a budget speech , if that is not a dereliction of duty I don’t know what is. Absolute lack of management As of yesterday here in Sunny EU Berlin/Germany, all Gas Bills will be subject only to 7% VAT, rather than the usual 19% (for 18+ months). What will that nice Mrs Truss and her greedy chums do, I wonder?
