Grandparents across the UK are being urged to check if they are eligible for payments of up to £3,000.
The Mirror reports that grandparents could be eligible for extra credits worth £275 a year by the government. It could prove to be extra useful, as you need at least 10 years' worth of NI credits to qualify for the state pension, and at least 35 years' worth to get the full sum. "National Insurance credits help people to protect their state pension while doing valuable work such as looking after a child. Now that applications are open for 2021/22, I would encourage anyone who thinks they might be eligible to put in an application.
The child they are looking after must be under 12 years old, or 17 if they have disabilities. Anyone living in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is eligible.
