Amid growing pressure for Akshata Murty to explain her claim that she has non-dom status because she is an Indian citizen, the Prime Minister refused to comment on the controversy.
Earlier Ms Murthy, wife of Chancellor Rishi Sunak, insisted she's "always" paid UK taxes after a report was released that she claimed non-domicile status. "I think he's been very straightforward about this. It's a very simple principle, the non-domicile status. What that means, is that you pay tax on your UK income in the UK."It's a very simple status, it's been around for over 200 years and the Chancellor has been very transparent about it. That's as far as I'm concerned the end of the matter."
"The implication there's been any wrongdoing is completely wrong and he's been very clear about those affairs." The newspaper claims the status could have saved the Chancellor's wife millions of pounds in tax on foreign earnings, but a spokeswoman for Ms Murthy said she has always paid UK taxes on her UK income.The non-dom status is lawful and it is understood Ms Murthy pays foreign taxes on her overseas income.
"Rishi Sunak must now urgently explain how much he and his family have saved on their own tax bill at the same time he was putting taxes up for millions of working families and choosing to leave them £2,620 a year worse off."

I've noticed a lot of Tory accounts trying to frame this as a personal attack on the wife rather than an outrageous conflict of interest for one of the highest offices in the land. They really don't value our intelligence.
How many families do you have Mr Johnson and how many of them have chosen to avoid tax by being non-doms even though they live in the UK while also being married to the Chancellor who changes tax at his whim to benefit whoever he chooses but seemingly very rich people?
If that is the case then partners etc should not be involved full stop. Carrie seems to get involved in parties etc!!! When they are part of the household, I think it can be an issue.

When someone with less than 0.1% of her wealth is paying more in tax than her, you know we are living in a broken country. It’d be nice to have a chancellor who knows how a credit card works and doesn’t need to borrow some ‘pleb’s’ car for a photo op.
