The former prime minister has exposed the hypocrisy of any effort to prorogue parliament, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland

Twenty six years after he was caught by a hot mic denouncing the Eurosceptic “bastards” in his own cabinet, John Major has proved that he has not lost his knack for making news – and this time he very much knew the microphone was on.

*He can't even be bothered calling him Sir

People get sexual gratification over seeing a comet every 20 years, it's been 394 years since the last time the expenses swilling liars were put on ice, I say keep the Queen on standby.

You can’t take No Deal off! it is an important bargaining chip to negotiate a good deal. If you take that off the table you will be forced to accept whatever you’re given and unable to argue for more. Like if a seller knows you have to buy from them their price will never budge!!

Wish we could have had John Major on this side of The Pond, when Stephen Harper Ruled Canada... prorogue DeAdder

Why is it this gets media coverage and not the Robin Tilbrook case? Oh I forgot Brexiteers are suppressed. Media is Remain. GrahamHmoore BrexiteersAreSuppressed MediaBias

The Guardian crawling-up the backside of Major; pretty much sums-up its pathetic, slavish devotion to the EU, even if it means idolatry of a washed-up, former Tory Prime Minister.

Has he not got something better to do? Edwina curry?...

It's self interest and anti democrat.

Try doing a bit of research into Major Especially the bit about prorogueing of Parliament

I suppose that ranks up there with giving away UK sovereignty to the EU with Maastricht and wasting enough money to build (was it) 5 General Hospitals by trying to buck the market and take us into the Euro. And what a mess he’s left us in...

There's Blair lingering in the background so it must be an anti semitic plot to stop Boris posting diplomatic letters into the nearist Hijab

John prologued parliament to avoid a bribery scandal when he was PM. Seems a bit hypocritical of him TBH. The “deal” has been voted-down three times now because it isn’t leaving the EU. The EU won’t negotiate any more, so we have to WTO in order to honour the referendum result.

Would rather have Grey John as our PM again any day

What a trust in Court system Whish similar court systems in third world countries too ...

The Brixton Boy taking on Etonian Mafia. I like it. G’wan John .

Bravo Sir John, the last decent Tory!

Sigh. Sadly, he’s from a time when MP’s deserved and commanded our respect

Let Boris have his way and Britain will become a dictatorship

Just read Jonathan Freedland's article on John Major's threat to take Boris Johnson to court. Johnson will be a disaster for UK!

Nope, it’s John’s attention getting device

Go for it

It’s hypocritical posturing is what it is.

This article is pure gold. Spot on!!

😆

The public you refer to voted for Brexit. Major would be ignoring this and doing a public disservice.

Only to Guardianistas. To most he’s an incompetent traitor who sold his soul long ago

John Major prorogued parliament in 1997, Cash for Question scandal

Former PM Major says he could take Johnson to court to stop him suspending parliamentForrmer prime minister Sir John Major has said he would be willing to go to court to try and stop Boris Johnson suspending parliament. Strange old world. After all the shouting about Parliamentary Democracy Mr Johnson wants to bypass it and Mr Corbyn wants to get a majority vote on Brexit and then campaign to overturn it. Not sure either are up to much. Him and Blair are the problem both guilty of selling us short in EU - breathtaking arrogance He has no juristiction in parliament. He is just a pundit now.

Steve Bell’s If ... on Boris Johnson's Churchillian visionSteve Bell’s If ... Anyone who genuinely believes in democracy should be thoroughly ashamed of the betrayal of 17.4 million voters by these political parasites in Westminster! “He refers to a defeat as if it came from God, but a victory as if it came from himself”. Aneurin Bevan speaking about Winston Churchill So maybe Boris is like WC with the leadership qualities taken out
