Actor proposes system under which people would have limited points to spend on holidays and luxury items

Joanna Lumley has suggested that a system of rationing similar to that seen during wartime, under which people would have a limited number of points to spend on holidays or lavish consumer goods, could eventually help to tackle the climate crisis., said legislation could be the only way to curb the amount of waste produced by the public. “These are tough times, and I think there’s got to be legislation,” she told the Radio Times.

So Joanna Lumley wants foreign travel rationed to save the planet. You mean Joanna Lumley from Joanna Lumley's Silk Road, Joanna Lumley's Trans Siberian Adventure, Joanna Lumley's Nile, Joanna Lumley's Japan, Joanna Lumley's Hidden Caribbean, and many more? That Joanna Lumley?

So Lumley has lived a life of riley, flown around the world and drank champagne in every swanky hotel in every major city and now she’s on her way out she thinks we should all live like we’re in wartime. Brilliant.

She's nothing more than a champagne socialist: simply ignore her.

Drab not Fab

What climate crisis is that then? There have been so many over the last 40 years, all of them revealed as attention seeking, newspaper selling lies. So which one is this fool harping back to...?

I’ll agree if we declare war on the wealthy.

Our Joanna can say what she wants, still 'babe central'...

And send the whole economy into free fall with millions plunged into poverty as they lose their jobs due to lack of demand. Joanna please think before you speak.

Just a has been celeb trying to be relevant again. So trot out some nonsense and hope the trash media will bite.

this is silliness

Forget the climate, it would reduce the level of obesity. How it saves the planet is by living as if you face the threat of starvation. This religion is getting out of hand.

Hag

Get ye to a food bank!

There is no crisis. Concentrate your efforts on getting plastic out of the oceans and recycling. Those are real issues!

I wonder if she still remembers being around in ww1

The leftoid descent into authoritarianism is accelerating it seems. Disgusting people.

Let's start by rationing rich people's flights, consumption of consumer goods, how many houses they own, how much energy their huge houses and vehicles consume. The working class already self ration cos of limited £.

Privileged woman telling poorer people how they can & can’t spend their £ well that will really help change 🌎 Is it any wonder that so many people see “activism” as rich liberals telling them, when they have so little control in their lives , what to do , pathetic nonsense 😡

Always good to hear from the beneficiaries of privilege about how people should limit their lives.

Boris Johnson's babysitter. that's all you need to know.

So the pay she got from the programs about Egypt and Japan should 100% go towards climate change? Good glad we all agree she’s hypocritical as hell

Bless!

We could and probably should ration - Fuel - Enough to heat a home, but not enough to heat a swimming pool. Air travel - Enough to visit relatives and take a holiday but not enough to fly to New York for a hair cut.

Lumley, like me, was born after WWII, and probably has only the haziest idea about wartime rationing. Should we look at our food consumption? Certainly. But evoking the war that most people know nothing about is deceitful. 🧐

It’s a pity she didn’t think like that when she travelled the world.

Supplant 'Time' for individual CO2 etc, monitors. They would have to be biometrically bonded2the wearer. You get an annual CO2 allowance which you are free do use, sell, etc as you please. This the ONLY way climate change can be stopped. Now extrapolate.

Have Cake Eat - Boris Johnson

She is not saying only eat bread, milk, butter and sugar but to cut down on luxuries. She has a very valid and also easily managable point.

She means rationing for the majority of us not all of us. Clearly the rich will be immune to such draconian and backward policies.

Lumley's on the right track. What about a consumption tax on all 'luxury' items and services which only clicks in after you've spent, say, £10,000; or with refunds for any tax paid until you reach your allowance?

I agree with her.

This from the women who flew to Belize, Egypt, Japan, Mexico, Namibia and the USA to film a 90 minute documentary about cats.

I don't think it matters whether Joanna Lumley is wealthy or whether you think her suggestion is extreme, this would be an effective way of combating the causes of climate change. The real question is what impact would it have on the economy?

They just can't help themselves, can they - these nostalgia-ridden, masochistic supporters of the Brexit sado-populists? In practice, it usually means rationing only for the little people, though, doesn't it?

Joanna Lumley, net worth of $16.5m, owner of a mansion & fleet of cars, traveller of the world, polluter/carbon contributor, tells people to ration to help climate crisis (perhaps lead by example first?)

Sod rationing.
