I hid behind the sofa after I saw her being murdered ‘It’s your fault your mum was murdered.’ That’s what my auntie used to say to me. Her words hurt, but not as much as when she followed it up by punching me where no one would see my bruises. When I was just nine-years-old, I witnessed my mother’s boyfriend murder her.
Then, when it got really late, I would sit in the car doing word searches and staying warm. But I think someone must have reported that I was sleeping in there because the council came and took the car away one morning and I was told to move along. That was the only place I’d felt safe in a long time, now I was forced to find other options. But as a female, you can’t just go to the corner of a road and sleep. It’s not safe. To be honest, I don’t remember sleeping much after that at all.
