I'm a Manchester bombing victim and was made to feel like a scrounger for seeking compensation

By around 11.45pm, I was moved to Manchester Royal Hospital; where I was put into an induced coma for two weeks. Thankfully, a kind couple put my daughter and her friend into a taxi home. Gabrielle, I’m told, had not wanted to get in – and had kept insisting that she was being picked up.. I did not leave hospital for eight months.

My solicitor does a lot of work with the Police Federation; helping people make their cases to CICA and he tells me that is the first time something like that has ever happened. I never tell people how much money I received. But before this I worked at Jaguar on the production line. The settlement does not cover a year of my partner and I’s combined income. And I have not been able to work for six years. As someone who left education on a Friday, and had a job by the Saturday, I can’t tell you how much that has damaged my self-esteem.

For the last two or three years, I have been funding a lot of treatment myself; my physio, counselling for my mental health, mobility exercises. This costs me around £500 to £600 a month.
