“I don’t like working when it rains, it feels dangerous especially with the cars on the road. They don’t look where they go. And it gets cold. So cold.“But there are good things about the job. I like to hang out with my friends when I can and sometimes, if you are lucky, you can make good money.”Paul* is in his fifties and married with two children. He has another job on top of his work delivering for Deliveroo, Uber Eats and Just Eat.

“It is also stressful. I am here legally, I’ve been in the UK a long time but I find the app difficult when it is asking me for documents. I have to get my daughter to help me understand how to upload these things and sometimes it goes wrong and neither of us understand. The instructions were not clear and it asked for my papers three times. I was scared I was going to have my account closed even though I am here legally.

“We continue to work closely with policymakers to develop solutions which ensure couriers substituting their work do so safely in accordance with the law.”
