Everyone loves Pancake Day. Even if you forget the big as it fast approaches, the sudden remembrance of Shrove Tuesday often comes with an excitement of what you're going to put on top of your creations this year.
Those looking for a quick pancake fix will find themselves dashing to their nearest convenience shop or supermarket to see if they have any ready made mis that just requires a bit of milk. Others, who are more prepared, will tell you that nothing beats the taste of ones made from scratch.this year - we thought we'd settle the debate on which is better, more convenient, and of course, cheaper.
Most places do a pre-made pancake mix these days, perfect for those in a pinch. Lidl is our mix of choice, coming in with three different flavours for 2023 - plain, salted caramel and chocolate. The plain mix makes 12 to 14 pancakes, which if you're just looking to feed yourself is a bit much in my opinion.
The mix only put me back 99p, and requires you to add milk to the bottle and give it a shake. This method without a doubt it most convenient. A child could prepare this mix. With the bottle prepared, we poured the mix into a pan of hot oil and let the cooking commence. To make the comparison fair, both sets of pancakes will be finished with a simple lemon juice and sugar dressing. This is also the best topping and I wont hear otherwise. The pancake initially cooked well, but was a hassle to flip. My mum always says the first pancake of the mix sticks to the pan, but so did the second, and the third.
