More than 1,000 homes have been hit by a large power cut in a Greater Manchester town. Residents in parts of Atherton, Wigan, are waking up to homes without electricity this morning .
Electricity North West says 1,140 customers are currently without electricity supply in the M29 and M46 postcode areas. Engineers are currently on their way to resolve the issue, the company says. In an update on Electricity North West's website, a spokesperson said: "This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident on the high voltage cable that provides electricity to your home or business. We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible."The power cut was first reported shortly after 6.30am today.
Some homes may have power restored before the issue is fully resolved, Electricity North West says. Anyone who requires assistance due to the power cut can call Electricity North West on 105.
