Crematorium bosses have been accused of having ‘no humanity or sympathy’ for fining a grieving family £200 after their loved one’s funeral overran by just 14 seconds.
The service itself actually finished on time, but an infirm mourner with walking sticks meant there was a very short delay in clearing the building. North East Lincolnshire Council, which runs Grimsby Crematorium, issues penalties for services which overrun their allocated time slots.Local councillor Keith Brookes, who was approached by the upset family, said: ‘It looks as if someone is holding a stop watch, clicking as someone walks in the chapel and checks the last one to leave.
