Daisy Allen, a talented 13-year-old singer, has been given a £1000 grant by Johnny Marr to help pay for formal tuition and stage equipment. Marr, a former member of The Smiths, aims to support young people in Salford to achieve their potential.

Daisy Allen taught herself to sing watching free online videos as her family struggled to pay for professional lessons. But her dedication has struck a cord with a certain charming man.

The Trust aims to help young people in the city achieve their potential and Daisy is the third young person that singer and songwriter Johnny has helped out with a grant. She has also organised charity concerts to raise money for motor neurone disease research after the condition claimed the life of a close relative. Her mum Tammi, 41, added: “Daisy doesn’t really see how talented she is, especially as she has taught herself. But once people hear her they become transfixed.”

Daisy is the second recipient of the Johnny Marr award from the Salford Foundation Trust after teenage guitarist John Denton, who won in 2023 and went on to headline at Salford Lads Club with his band, The Height. “Daisy is so excited and privileged to win The Johnny Marr award. It means the absolute world and it means she can follow her dreams.”
