Labour-commissioned report advocates sector-by-sector approach to reducing hours

A French-style cap on the length of the working week has been rejected by a study, commissioned by the Labour party, into ways of giving employees more leisure time.

This article conveys classic misconceptions about the French 35-hour working week. 35 hours is the legal threshold, any hour worked beyond 35 hours entitles worker to compensation either via overtime rate or extra days off (aka RTT). On avg, people still work a classic 40 hrs.

The French do 10% fewer hours than the British. But their productivity is higher, so their GDP is roughly the same.
