NI Secretary Brandon Lewis said empty shelves in Northern Ireland were down to Covid-19.

Food supply problems into Northern Ireland from Great Britain are "clearly a Brexit issue", Ireland's foreign affairs minister has said."Let's not pretend Brexit doesn't force that kind of change," he said, speaking on ITV's Peston programme

On Tuesday, the NI secretary said images of empty supermarket shelves had "nothing to do with the protocol". Rather, Brandon Lewis argued the disruption caused by coronavirus before Christmas was responsible for the shortages of some food products. The Northern Ireland Protocol between the UK and the EU requires health certifications on animal-based food products entering NI from the rest of the UK.

Mr Coveney said it meant "very real change" for some businesses, as there now had to be a "certain number of checks" on goods from Britain into Northern Ireland.Mr Coveney said the Republic of Ireland would work with the UK and EU to "make sure" supermarket shelves were not empty in the future.

Why don't they bring food from the Irish Republic with whome they have an open border?

'The Northern Ireland Protocol between the UK and the EU requires health certifications on animal-based food products entering NI from the rest of the UK.' Was this not the case before Brexit? Why the sudden need for it if not?

Life is so much better now isn't it.

Irelands protectionism wanting to break Northern ireland from the Union by stopping internal market deliveries between British Supermarkets in the british customs union, then attempts to blame us for having the cheek to want sovereign independence.

BBC still pushing there fear factor scaremongering Brexit shite! Nothing like a couple of empty shelves to start all the sad remoaners crying again! As long as there is a plentiful stock of tissues they should be fine!

no Irish supermarkets in NI?

101st time this year 😀

“Let’s put the customs border down the Irish Sea, that’ll be good”

Well they wanted the measures they have now, but they wouldn’t listen.

Brexiteers “knew exactly what they were voting for” - hopefully they are all working round the clock to solve this, but somehow I doubt it. You broke it, you own it!

Looks plenty down the left aisle

They are part of UK, sort it!

I don't think the unionists fully understand Brexit yet...but they will.

Why is it only showing shelves of food we can grow ourselves. Hell why import fresh vegetables and fruits. If they don’t grow here fair enough but if they do then grow your own. I do

Why use a 5/6 day old picture ScumMedia DefundTheBBC

pritipatel you have Ireland under siege. Be careful what you wish for!

Nah

Bullshit

Hold on. NI is the one part of the UK still within the single market. How can this have anything to do with Brexit? Brexit

It's just the start. Only half the border checks are in place for now, as they said it would produce too much chaos to do it all at the same time. The UK checks will not be implemented until Summer.....

only going to get worse over the next few weeks and months all this is designed to make the poor much much poorer and the rich much much more richer.

I just wanted a bag of lettuce

Surely, of course. No doubt. Clearly. Categorically.

It really is.

nice

I did warn you

Poor old BBC scaremongering again 😂😂😂😂😂

And Boris is still the prime minister. Why aren’t people asking for his resignation?
