Levels of coronavirus in the community may have risen over the first 10 days of the third lockdown, a representative sample of people in England suggests.
The Imperial College London researchers say there "was no strong evidence" of these high infection levels decreasing.in the number of lab-confirmed cases reported daily by the government. They admit there is some uncertainty in their data amid a "fast-changing situation" but conclude health services will remain under extreme pressure.
But director of the Imperial College London programme Prof Paul Elliott said the third lockdown was not having the same impact as the first, in April.

If we are in lockdown how comes so many infections. We are not in lockdown only some industries and the children what is not fair ! It will be never ending for some and some confine to live there life’s as normal !

Seems pretty simple really , lots of people infected 3 weeks ago , so we then have a lockdown, those people infected are then in houses with others who they infect hence the rate doesn’t decline till those infected households have caught covid. Then we see a fall

Worth following. Does Imperial have the best record though? If accurate, assume it's a mixture of one of the worst periods for respiratory illness anyway (yes, manmade measures only do so much) & in some specific cases, people consolidating the virus in households after lockdown.
Virus levels would rise wouldn’t they for first 10 days of any lockdown as that is the length of incubation period...many people would have gone into lockdown asymptomatic at the very start of their infection, developed it and passed it on to others in the household.

Might be an idea to read the report. The sample dates were at start of December (as cases were starting to rise) and start of January - cases are up between those two dates. It doesn’t say anything about mid-December and now and notes they may have missed the December peak.
